For most children and adults alike, the word ‘snack’ means just packets of flavored chips and fries made of refined oil, maida laced cookies, and sugary sweet chocolates. Almost all children go through the day eating these unhealthy snacks that are not appropriate for their age. As per a study conducted by the Centre for Science and Environment in 2016, 93% of children between the age group of 9-17 years eat packaged food. The study also showed that 56% of the children consume packaged sweet products like chocolates and ice creams more than twice a week and 53% consume packaged salty food like chips.
The blame does not necessarily fall on parents as they often find it difficult to buy trustworthy, wholesome, healthy, and guilt-free snacks that are suitable for children. The market is flooded with flashy packets of snacks that are ironically very well known to be unhealthy for any people of any age. This was the genesis for Timios, a start-up that makes organic, age-appropriate snacks for children.
Founded in 2016 by brother-sister duo Aswani Chaitanya and Hima Bindu, Timios offers a range of healthy products for children in the age group of six months to 12 years.
